Currently you have to "activate" (hit green check mark) sketches to enable the ability to add sketch features. This will be cumbersome for sites that do not have edit. There has been discussion about changing default controls to simplify this process. This comment has been added as a ticket so we do not lose that discussion.

This seems to be done. I went straight to sketching and did not have to check the sketch features. Yay!

Set the "active" attribute to "true" on the Vector map-source to default it to the "active" vector layer.
