     82dbb:  so I have heard SplitToMaxN() and ST_SplitByGrid().  in the behavior of SplitToMaxN() all returned POLY use the existing vertices of the input, which are well defined of course. with SplitByGrid() the grid geometry provides the "anchor" vertices
