I'll attempt this this weekend.

I upgraded debbie to 2.57. So far so good. Rerunning trunk job to make sure nothing broken. I still have some plugins to upgrade but will hold off for a while to see how things go without upgrading those.

I'll do winnie after she's moved to her new home.

Apparently the new UI/UX is only partially done will be in such a state for a extended period. Seems they want to keep it opt-in until it can replace the old UI entirely.

To make it available is has to be installed as a plugin, see https://jenkins.io/doc/book/blueocean/getting-started/.

Well I looked at available plugins and can't find this one. When

I type Blue, I just get

Green Balls
Because green balls are better than blue

Doesn't show up in installed or updates available either. Wonder if they renamed it or I need something else before it's an available option.

I reread the page. Looks like need to upgrade to Jenkins 2.7 to use Blue Ocean.

To start using the Blue Ocean plugin in an existing Jenkins environment, it must be running Jenkins 2.7.x or later.

I'll have to read up on where to get that since I took the default Jenkins 2 that apt-get provided which was 2.57.

In my book 57 > 7. But seems strange that it is nowhere to be found.

comment:7 by robe, 8 years ago

ah yes, for some reason I don't have a micro so was reading as 2.5.7 instead of 2.57. So yah 2.7.1 should be lower than 2.57.

Maybe I didn't wait long enough for checking for updates. Cause it still shows last checked 7 days ago. or the update center thing I have is broken.

comment:9 by Björn Harrtell, 8 years ago

The Blue Ocean plugin went 1.0.0 in April (https://plugins.jenkins.io/blueocean)and should be available via the update center thing. Is there a chance that updates.jenkins-ci.org is not reachable from the machine running Jenkins?

comment:10 by robe, 8 years ago

wget updates.jenkins-ci.org

from the server, returns results.

Though not sure it is an issue that all the json files I click on give a json parser error. So maybe its having trouble reading latest configs from json files.

I do see the blueocean files here

http://updates.jenkins-ci.org/latest/

I'll try to install them manually

comment:11 by robe, 8 years ago

I was able to install manually. Much more painful since manual install doesn't handle all the dependencies so had to install the 20 someodd plugins in the right order.

Now what?

comment:12 by robe, 8 years ago

and after I went thru the trouble of manually installing, I turned off update center browser download, and that seemed to have fixed the plugins list being stuck at 8 days ago.

You can now reach the new UI via a button in the header or a direct link like this:

I guess next step is taking advantage of this whole pipeline framework. I hate reading so much.
