imagebound app failure

i was looking at one of the command line tools in ossim called ossimbounds.  it doesnt seem to work for 
me.  it fails at the line:

    ossimProjection* proj = ossimProjectionFactoryRegistry::instance()->createProjection(inputFilename, 0);

it returns a null value for the projection.   Image_info works fine but it uses the version of the above 
routine which takes a keyword list as an argument rather than the filename.
