There is some comment I made after testing OSGeo-live 9.5 alpha2.
Everything I tried was working and major stuff was in french, so i happy with it.
Here is just some feedback that might useful.
It is mostly quickstarts , but i went a little forward on qgis and postgis.
thanks to kalxas suggesting posting it here.(comments in brackets are his)
Tests
On LiveCD:
System:
Language choosing on start up -> Great stuff !
Full screen after logging: Perfect !
Updates: 66 packages, 328.3 Mo right after boot with osgeo-live-9.5alpha2-amd64.iso?
17 packages, 165 Mo with build 62-amd64-96cd3d3 ?
(we update most packages on each build, without kernel updates, so the older the build, the more updates it will ask for)
On virtualbox, shutdown stop at "Stopping early crypto disks", maybe an Ubuntu issue.
(upstream issue)
PostGIS:
It Lacks a PostGIS Database with recommended extensions postgis, postgis_topology, fuzzystrmatch..
(postgis databases exist in the build, I am not sure about topology though)
-- pgrouting DB has postgis enabled, but not postgis_topology.
It think for educational purposes easier to have a model with the an explicit name and recommended extensions to use as a template. --
pgAdminIII:
Working, little bug that i already have on an other installation of Postgre/PostGIS:

Software choice:
It is just my opinion, don't take personally.
Lubuntu:
I'd rather have Xfce or mate than LXDE. I know it is lightweighted, i spend 2 years on #! (so with openbox) and i liked it. But LXDE, no i can't bare it.
Abiword/ Gnunmeric:
For professional use, i think OpenOffice will be a better choice.
