script updated; quickstart refers to an alias in /home/user for NaturalEarth.. needs checking

I can have a look at the quickstart

I tested the quickstart. Mapfile works and find the NaturalEarth data referred in the symbolik link.

The example uses the natural earth dataset, which is already installed on the live dvd at ~/data/natural_earth2 (a short cut to /usr/local/share/data/natural_earth2).

Still, the MapServer from the Web Services folder leads to 404 page...

comment:7 by kalxas, 10 years ago

Good news, the demo page is not showing 404 anymore in alpha4, but the map is not showing properly (I am guessing we need to provide valid tmp path in map files)

As can be seen in the screenshot, apache2 does not give access to /tmp

Typically the directory is {Apache document root}/tmp and it is owned and writable (755) by the user the apache is running under. Is that not possible?

If not then we'd need to roll a new demo that doesn't use temporary files at all.
