Broken refs to www2.dmsolutions.ca demos in MapServer docs

Reported by: dmorissette Owned by: assefa
Priority: normal Milestone: 5.6 release
Component: Documentation - MapServer Version: unspecified
Severity: normal Keywords:

Description

MapServer docs, such as http://mapserver.org/input/vector/ogr.html#sample-sites-using-ogr-mapserver refer to some demos that used to be hosted on the www2.dmsolutions.ca server.

This server had some hardware problems recently and had to be decommissioned, so the demos are no longer available online. However, the files are still available in a backup. After talking to Jeff, it seems that we have a demo server for MapServer (at telascience?), so we should move those demos there.

A Google search returned a few more docs that refer to urls under http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/msapps/...

Some docs also refer to a number of sample OGC services at http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/cgi-bin/mswfs_* and http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/cgi-bin/mswms_*. Some of them have been ported to a new server by DMSG already, but others are still missing such as http://www2.dmsolutions.ca/cgi-bin/mswfs_filter. This is lower priority I guess, but you may need to do a complete inventory of them and decide on the best way to handle them.

Owner: changed from jmckenna to assefa

I will initially restore the demos using the current urls. I can move them latter on to telescience.

went through the sld and filer encoding docs and checked and restored all the links.

http://mapserver.org/input/vector/ogr.html#sample-sites-using-ogr-mapserver has links to a mapserver map applications. From what I can see these are running apps showing maps (using different type of data). Are they really pertinent at this point? (I mean the user is not able to see the map file syntax right?)

The following site uses OGR, as well as MapInfo’s ‘Seamless Map Layers’ feature:

The following site uses OGR to display TIGER 2000 files:

That may not have been clear from the docs, but the intention was that one could browse the directory and view the .map file. There are .map.txt versions of the mapfile for that, e.g.

ah, did not realize that. They are all back now. Should we close this bug now? we can open another bug in the future if we move them to telescience

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

If all refs in all docs are all back online and DMSG plans on keeping them online for the forseeable future, then I have no problem closing this one now. Porting them to telascience can be done later if/when the docs group chooses to do so. Thank you both Assefa and Shawn.
