In my tests it seems that antialiased line drawing only works with 24-bit
output. Need to experiment more. Me thinks we need to turn on alpha blending if
24-bit output is being produced OR if we're drawing anti-aliased symbols.

Since alpha blending is for true color images only (duh) something else is 
going on...
