g.list: wide format for pretty printing

Description
It would be nice if g.list would allow outputting lines longer than 80 characters, and thus in more than two columns of map names.
This could be either in form of a parameter "nb_columns" which would default to 2 as currently or in form of a "nb_characters" and the number of columns would be determine automagically from that.
Or even better: g.list detects the width of the terminal and adjusts automagically...
