I wonder if there are some features from this Data Catalog which are not in the current trunk's Data Catalog (integrated in Layer Manager). If not or if it is unknown, I suggest closing this issue as fixed. (Data Catalog in trunk needs more work, such as fail-safe location switching and standalone version, but new tickets should be created if needed.)

The current Data tab in the Layer Manager (or g.gui.datacatalog) handles basic copying and renaming as well as searching for maps in and outside of current Mapset (GRASS safety can be turned off and on). Available in trunk (7.1). Closing as fixed. Please, open a new ticket for enhancements of the current functionality.
