Description
Seems to me that the wxgui windows ( layer manager and mapdisplay ) are positioned at start up on the top of the screen.
On osx the window goes behind the main OS toolbar and the user is not able to move them.

Right, the windows are positioned by default. Please provide settings for OSX, i.e. screen coordinates of the upper-left corner of map display window.
