Description
I am a first-time user of Version 6.4.0RC5 on Ubuntu 9.10. I had no problem installing the software from Synaptic or extracting spearfish60 into /home/.../grassdata. Using the GUI, I select "spearfish60" and "user1", then hit "Enter GRASS." A dialog box appears that says: "g.proj or projection error: ERROR: G-getenv(): Variable LOCATION_NAME not set." Can you help?

Hi,
this one is not your fault, there was a bug (#654) in the edition of RC5 that ubuntu shipped with Karmic. You'll probably find a newer version (RC6) available for download from UbuntuGIS? The newer version is much updated.
