Description
Would you accept a patch for libgeotiff that moves it to using automake/autoconf if I were to say I'd maintain it? libLAS' usage of libgeotiff means that I need it to compile/work independently from GDAL (unless we were to start installing the include files for geotiff with GDAL, which is probably a really bad idea). The compilation stuff right now only reliably works on win/linux, and I need it to work on os x and solaris without too much hassle.
I think it would simpler to rework things to use automake than to try and continue the current approach. I've had very good success with it for libLAS, and I'm willing to step up and keep it alive on geotiff.

This has been done a few months ago by Howard - closing ticket.

I am agreeable. I have brought forward a motion for you to be a committer to apply the changes yourself, and sent an email to the geotiff list asking for feedback. Things can proceed after the motion passes, and based on any feedback received.
