== Overview ==

GeoNetwork converts all metadata schemas that it handles to a common XML index document via XSLT: for each metadata schema, this translation is handled by index-fields.xsl. This common XML document is a lucene index document - it is ingested by Lucene, which creates an index of the fields within the document that is used for searching in GeoNetwork.

The common XML index document used in GeoNetwork could be replaced by a set of RDF (resource data format) triples
