QGIS working directory is set to a system directory, where user cannot write to. This has lead to an issue with spatial indexing of mesh layer: ​https://github.com/lutraconsulting/MDAL/issues/72#issuecomment-452992334

Currently, the work-around is to create a new shortcut and set the WD to a path where user has write access.
