FOSS4G2009 Website Setup

Description

Hi I'm looking for some assistance to migrate the FOSS4G2009 website from our POC to the OSGeo infrastructure.

We expect to get a site package by 4pm Friday 26th Sept (Sydney Time) ( http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?day=26&month=9&year=2008&hour=16&min=0&sec=0&p1=240)

We would like to move the site across onto an OSGeo server and set up the following domains to point to the site:

 http://2009.fossg4g.org/  http://foss4g2009.org/

Both urls we understand to be owned by OSGeo. I'm acting as local liason with the POC and am happy to do whatever is needed if someone can assist/point me in the right direction?

# Remote Access to OSGeo Box? # FTP Access? # Access to amend Apache Conf ( I assume that its apache?) # Requesting DNS change? # Creating redirects from other URLs?

Cheers

Simon (mapbutcher@…)

  • owner changed from sac@… to tmitchell
  • status changed from new to assigned

I'll take a look and see what I can do. Is anyone else interested in helping make DNS work for it? If so, meet me in #osgeo.

Are these notices going to the SAC list okay?

  • status changed from assigned to closed
  • resolution set to fixed

Okay, all is set.  http://foss4g2009.org has been redirected to Simon's snapshot. I added 2009.foss4g.org to DNS, it will just take some time to spread to the masses.

I also quickly checked each page of the site - looking good! I updated the OSGeo logo for you too. :)

Holler if you need anything else, or if the DNS needs tweaking, etc.

Forgot to mention what I did, thanks for the reminder Frank :)

The FOSS4G2009 DNS already pointed to osgeo1, so I put the files Simon had into /var/www/foss4g/2009

and changed the doc root for the names www.foss4g2009.org and foss4g2009.org to point to it.

Then I had to add another subdomain for 2009.foss4g.org and pointed it there too.

At the moment, www.foss4g.org points to the OCS instance running at: /var/www/ocs2/ocs-2.1.0 which really only hosts the 2008 tools. At some point the 2009 site will also refer to this OCS instance, but I didn't set up anything there yet.

Perhaps when 2008 event is wrapped up we can move all this to the osgeo2 server, and set up more options for a member of the 2009 event (Simon) to access the server.
