Documentation of STYLE COLORRANGE

Reported by: havatv Owned by: jmckenna

Description

COLORRANGE, with DATARANGE and RANGEITEM can be used to produce colour gradients from quantitative attributes - see #1305. It seems to have been around for some time (six years!), but has not been documented yet. Reasons for not documenting can be found in #1305.

In 6.0 it seems to work OK for AGG (png), GD (gif) and Cairo (pdf). Some have expressed that they have found this feature useful.

Should it be documented now (the question has already been asked in #1305)?

If so, the STYLE document would have to be updated, and perhaps also the symbol construction document. I can try do do something if I get the necessary input.

How should it be documented in order not to block future improvements?

I did work on that before...I had it all ready to add...but was told by the MapServer PSC not to document until the feature is officially released. (see discussions on the mapserver-dev archives)
