The suite should detect segfaults and not just count them as failures

Description

It would be a nice improvement if the suite detected application errors (like segfaults) and signaled them appropriately so that the user knows that something very severe is going on.

Currently segfaults are counted among failures.

I have added a summary notice of the number of tests which produced no result at all,stressing that these are likely serious errors. Done in trunk (r10097).
