What error messages or behavior are you getting? Is there anything in the error log? Operating system? Is the server process running? ...

How many times have you tried to log into the Admin page? Sometimes the server does not respond to the first few attempts at login because it is starting up the server processes so you may want to try a couple of times.

Error message which i m getting is "Authentication failed. Please enter a valid username and password.".

Apache server was running... I couldn't find any error logs

I'm using winXP sp2 OS. I tried to login about 5 to 6 times

Is the server process running?

I was doing an upgrade from 1.1.0 to 1.2.0RC2 and got this same error. After some investigation, I killed all the running php-cgi.exe processes in the Task Manager (which were probably associated with the previous installed version) and I was able to login succesfully again.

Does this help?

Summary: Not able to login "MapGuide Site Administrator"Poor error message from "MapGuide Site Administrator" when server not running

I've changed the summary of this defect.

We should see if we can detect in the Site Admin that the server is not running and display the appropriate error message. The current error message does not point the admin to the actual problem.

Even though this was found against 1.1.0, the same behavior can probably be found in 1.2.0.
