Extent Returns Invalid Polygon

Reported by: cfis@… Owned by:

Description (last modified by mloskot)

select astext(extent(GeomFromText('POINT(-104 40)')))

'POLYGON((-104 40,-104 40,-104 40,-104 40,-104 40))'

This polygon is invalid.

Should this work the same as Envelope should? That the extent of a Point is itself a Point. This means that the return value is always a valid geometry, and thus can be safely used in further operations.

extent() is a postgis function, so the problem is there...
