44The GDAL project has SWIG generated Java bindings for GDAL and OGR. Work has been done so that these bindings are in shape for 1.7.0 release. For the 1.5.0 and 1.6.0 release, they are considered to be broken.

6 Generally speaking the classes and methods mostly match those of the GDAL and OGR C++ classes. You can find the [http://gdal.org/java Javadoc] for API of the future 1.7.0 release. Ffor the moment, the JavaDoc still contains few detailed explanations, so please refer to the C++ method documentation in the mean time. Note : the API might be subject to changes before the actual release. It is aimed at being backward compatible with the API of previous releases (in the cases where it was not previously broken). Please report if you find that working API from previous GDAL version is not to be found in the 1.7.0 API.

810Due to the fact the Java garbage collector works in a separate thread from the main thread, it is necessary to configure GDAL with multi-threading support, even if you do not use GDAL API from several Java threads.
