 Online documentation for gdal2tiles.py utility is outdated. Man page outdated too. The uptodate documentation available only as 

gdal2tiles.py --help

Perhaps you would be interested in making a patch to update the doc ? It is located in apps/gdal_utilities.dox . Both man page and html are generated from that.

Thanks! By the way, your text editor has messed up with the end of line charachters apparently. Not critical :! I think I could do with it as it is. But would be nice for future patches if you could look at its settings to avoid that.
