build problem against libjpeg

I was configured the gdal-1.3.2 ,
Here I am getting error like checking for libgdal.la and check-lib.
And g++:/usr/lib/.libs/libjpeg.so: No such file or directory

It looks like something is wrong with the way libjpeg is installed, but 
there isn't anything I can see to do about it it from a GDAL point of view.
